NEW YORK , July 12, 2010 – Baseline today launched Primetime Television Insight, a three-part series of reports analyzing television trends and audience changes, and delivering insights and expectations about the primetime television landscape.
“With the television landscape changing rapidly and in so many ways, quality information is paramount to success, ” said Dan Sherlock, president, Baseline. “Baseline is already known as a leading provider of film and television information; with Primetime Television Insight, we are expanding our reach to provide our industry clients with a combination of targeted research and analysis to anticipate and succeed in this evolving industry.”
The 2010 Fall TV Preview Edition, the first report in the series, is available now. The report features:
- An overview of fall programming, including trends, analyses of lineups by network and by nightly schedule and predictions of new fall series hits and misses;
- An assessment of the impact of DVRs and video streaming on television viewing;
- A historical perspective on program genres – comedies, dramas, reality shows – and where each stands going forward;
- An in-depth look at the current television video landscape, including changes in audiences and ratings measurement tools; and
- An overview of cable networks, and an analysis of their real competitive sets.
Other key findings from the report include:
- Over the past decade, only 30 percent of the series with the most pre-season buzz became successful – slightly lower than the average new series success rate during the same period;
- Only 15 percent of all the new series that debuted during the past five seasons will still be on the air this fall; and
- This decade, the number of homes receiving more than 100 channels grew from just 10 percent to 70 percent of the U.S.
